Systems and Processes: How to Ask Your Future Self What She Did
Creating systems and processes that your future entrepreneur self uses is how you become that entrepreneur.
So many of us create systems and processes that reflect where we are now and where we’re going next, rarely giving much thought if the system or process will serve our future beyond our immediate goals.
By tapping into your future self you open up to a wisdom that can guide you to creating systems and processes that serve your long term business goals.
And you connect with who you’ll become by accomplishing them.
You may resist creating these now because you think they aren’t applicable to your present.
Your current systems are what’s applicable to your present, but you want to grow, right?
You’ll get to that future place because your system and process is made for who you are in the business you see in the future - not for where you are now.
Your Future Self is a more experienced, evolved version of you.
She has answers and is more than willing to share them with you.
Let’s get clear on a couple things first…
What is a Business System?
A business system is made up of processes designed to achieve a specific result. Creating effective business systems is the only way to attain results that are consistent, measurable, and benefit both your business and your customers.
What is a Business Process?
A business process is a collection of linked tasks which find their end in the delivery of a service or product to a client. A business process, once completed, will accomplish an organizational goal.
How do you create systems from your Future Self?
1. Connect with her.
I suggest you do this regularly to make it a habit.
Not only can she guide you in the specifics of your business, she can guide your entire life.
It’s so fun to implement her into your decision making process.
In fact, It’s Magic.
This is how I connect with my Future Self:
1. I set aside quiet, uninterrupted time.
2. In my mind, I visualize myself already having reached my current business goals.
3. I connect with myself in this place and ask the following questions:
How do you feel?
Who have you become?
What lessons have you learned?
4 I record her answers
2. Outline the current systems and processes you use in your business.
This is so you’ll have a baseline.
Your current self is conscious of your current systems. They’re in the forefront of your mind.
You’re also connected to your Future Self, having just done the above exercise.
This will take time, but it is so important.
Being clear on where you are now is how you become clear on where you want to go.
3. Ask your future self to show you what processes and systems to implement.
With each of your goals you visualized reaching ask your future self the following questions:
Describe the processes you used to accomplish this goal?
How did these processes fit into the overall systems of your business?
What was your greatest obstacle?
What was your greatest Win?
Anything else I need to know?
Write it all down.
4. Implement a plan to create the processes and systems
5. Follow your plan.
