A Letter To My 16 Year Old Self
Dear 16 year old Self,
You’re going to be ok. In fact, you’re going to be GREAT. The older you get the better your life will become. I know you want your life to be great now and it isn’t. Know you’re exactly where you’re supposed to be and you’re going to go through more (well, truth be told you’re going to put yourself through more: heartbreak, pain, struggle, confusion, doubt - loads of doubt and worry). But this is what will set you up for learning how to NOT choose situations that create more pain and suffering. You’re going to learn so much about yourself and the world and healing. You know you’re a healer and there’s a bigger space for you to occupy. You’ll get there My Love. Trust me.
Right now your mind is filled with problems. Right now you don’t have enough. You don’t have present parents, or healthy friends or any idea of what you want to do or how you’ll do it. You’re spinning. School is hard and your home life is not ideal. I know how hard it is. But you’ve got this. When you’re an adult you’re going to thrive. You will be present, you will be educated and you will be around healthy amazing people. You’re going to have an amazing relationship with everyone in your life. You will have more than enough. Trust me.
You are on the brink of breaking free and living your own life. You’re going to shake things up for yourself and it’ll be a full decade and a half of experiments. You are going to survive and learn from all the mistakes and failures. You’re also going to hone some very important skills and talents. Remember that nothing you do during this time defines you unless you decide it does. You can make everything you do mean whatever you want it to mean. It’s going to be a powerful time.
All your dreams will come true. You don’t need to know how - you can’t. You’ll figure it out as you go. The is the only way to do it. But keep in your mind and your heart that everything you image is possible is truly possible. It’s going to feel messy and scary and this is exactly how it’s supposed to feel. Don’t give up. You will have it all.
The most important relationship you will ever have is the one with yourself. No one else can love you more than you love yourself, so memorize the feeling of self love and practice what this looks like for you. No one knows what’s best for you more than you. In the times where what you’re doing seems out of alignment with what everyone else thinks you should be doing, know that you always know. The confidence this creates is everything.
I see you and I’m cheering you on. I know you feel me and believe there is something supporting you. It’s you, My Love. You are it; in everything everywhere. Move in to this Truth.
I’ll see you soon.
Your 42 year old Self.
